Samantha Lloyd has spent the last ten years in direct sales with Francis Coppola Winery and Inglenook (formerly Rubicon Estate). Through her experience designing the sales experience and leading the direct sales team, she gleaned keen insight into consumer taste and preferences, but most importantly, she realized how hard it was to find balanced wines at an affordable price.
Meeting Adam Ivor made her wish a reality. Born and raised in the Sonoma and Napa Valleys, Adam Ivor started working at Viansa Winery in Sonoma as a young teen. He eventually received his Bachelors Degree in Enology from Fresno State University, and went on to earn his M.B.A. in Wine Business from Sonoma State University.
Throughout his career he has worked at Benziger Family Winery, Imagery Winery, and Cathedral Ridge Winery in Hood River, Oregon. Adam was the winemaker at Highway 12 Winery in Sonoma Valley for close to ten years and founded Subterra Wines in 2010. Growing up in the prestigious wine growing regions of Napa and Sonoma, Adam has developed life-time relationships with industry leaders. He knows the microclimates of the region inside and out, giving him the ability to source varietals from where they grow best.
We have heard it a million times , it starts in the vineyard and thankfully the vineyards are our backyard, so we have been able to work with some of the best growers in Sonoma, Napa and throughout California. Our grower partners have made farming a family tradition, sharing knowledge passed down from generation to generation.
Adam has been driven by observation and curiosity about the world around him. How and why do things interact? What causes things in nature to react and change in the ways that they do? Chemistry, microbiology, soil science, plant physiology, and other sciences provided answers to these questions. Learning to understand the intricacies of wine in a glass, the ripening of fruit, the interaction of microbes in the soil and vine roots. These are the things that fascinated Adam about winemaking. His compilation of experience in both the vineyard and the cellar has given him the tools to craft fruit-forward wines of balance and harmony from the place in which he has called home for over 30 years.
